  • 4 pieces Sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla)
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with milk plus vinegar or lemon juice
For the Coating
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper Optional for heat
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
For Frying
  • 2-3 inches Vegetable oil For frying
For the Creamy Buttermilk Ranch Dip
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dried dill

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Onions - Peel and trim onions, making vertical slits.
  2. Step 2: Soak in Buttermilk - Submerge onions in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Make the Coating Mixture - Combine flour, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Step 4: Coat the Onions - Remove onions from buttermilk and coat in the flour mixture.
  5. Step 5: Heat the Oil - Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Step 6: Fry the Onions - Fry onions for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Step 7: Prepare the Ranch Dip - Mix mayonnaise and dried dill in a bowl.
  8. Step 8: Serve and Enjoy - Place fried onions on paper towels and serve with dip.
