- Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Mix pancake mix, water, and maple syrup in a bowl until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese evenly into the batter.
- Fill each muffin cup about three-quarters full with the mixture, adding any optional ingredients if desired.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
