  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free flour optional
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Adjust for heat preference
For the Crunchy Coating
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs Superior for crunch
For the Sauce
  • 1 cup Vegan BBQ Sauce Store-bought or homemade

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy BBQ Tofu
  1. Press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture by wrapping it in a towel, placing a heavy object on top for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Cut the pressed tofu into triangles or cubes for even cooking.
  4. In a bowl, mix soy milk, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a smooth batter.
  5. Mix Panko breadcrumbs with a pinch of salt and pepper in another bowl.
  6. Dip each piece of tofu in the batter, then roll it in the Panko mixture until well coated.
  7. Arrange the coated tofu on the baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  8. Toss the baked tofu in BBQ sauce and return to the oven for another 10 minutes.
  9. Let cool briefly before serving for the best crispy texture.
