Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough by adding olive oil, minced garlic, dried herbs, salt, and 2½ cups of flour; mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6 to 8 minutes, incorporating half the grated parmesan.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Shape the dough by dividing it into three pieces, rolling into ropes, and braiding them.
  6. For the second rise, let the braided dough rise on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 30 to 40 minutes.
  7. Prepare for baking by brushing with melted butter and adding toppings if desired.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
