Teriyaki Sauce Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté 1 tablespoon of grated ginger and 1 minced garlic clove for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of honey, allowing them to dissolve completely.
- Pour in 1 cup of low sodium soy sauce and 1/4 cup of rice wine vinegar. Increase the heat slightly until simmering. Bubble gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Burger Patty Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1 beaten egg, and 1/2 cup of panko breadcrumbs. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4-5 oz patties.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (375°F to 400°F) and lightly grease the grates.
Grilling
- Cook the patties on the grill for 6-8 minutes per side, or until they reach 160°F.
- Brush the tops with teriyaki sauce during the last minute of grilling.
- Remove patties and let rest for a couple of minutes.
Assembly
- Slice and lightly toast the potato buns on the grill.
- Assemble by placing a patty on each bun, topping with grilled pineapple and red onion.
