Preparation Steps
- Prepare the Danish Pastry by making the homemade Danish pastry a day in advance, then roll it out into a large rectangle and fold it several times. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled Danish pastry into a rectangle again. Cut it into squares of desired size, arrange on a baking sheet.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, milk, and lemon zest until smooth and creamy.
- Rinse and dry fresh strawberries, chop them into small pieces.
- In the center of each pastry square, place a teaspoon of strawberry jam followed by a dollop of cream cheese filling and pieces of fresh strawberries.
- Fold and twist each pastry square, seal them by pinching. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with demerara sugar. Bake for about 20 minutes.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes
Ensure your Danish pastry is well-rested and do not overwork the dough for the best texture. Fresh strawberries are preferred for optimal flavor.
