  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs use gluten-free if necessary
  • 1 large Egg for binding
  • 1/2 cup Milk adds moisture

  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper

  • 1 medium Green Bell Pepper diced
  • 1 medium Onion diced
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil for sautéing
For the Cheese Layer
  • 8 slices Provolone Cheese can substitute with mozzarella or Swiss
For Garnish
  • Fresh Parsley optional

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease your loaf pan.
  2. Sauté the diced green bell pepper and onion in olive oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  4. Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of the greased loaf pan. Layer four slices of provolone cheese and the sautéed vegetables, then cover with the remaining meat mixture.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Add four more slices of provolone on top in the last 5 minutes of baking.
  6. Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes. Slice and serve warm, garnished with parsley.
