Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Provides richness and moisture; substitute with margarine for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil Ensures a soft texture; can be replaced with melted coconut oil for added flavor.
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar Adds sweetness and a hint of molasses flavor; white sugar can be an alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Honey Offers natural sweetness and depth; maple syrup could be used as a twist.
  • 1 large Egg Binds ingredients; for a vegan option, use a flaxseed egg.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Enhances overall flavor; use either homemade or store-bought.
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; gluten-free baking flour can be substituted.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda Essential leavening agent; do not skip this ingredient!
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor; fleur de sel is preferred, but kosher salt works too.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Adds warmth; adjust based on seasonal preferences.

Steps
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, vegetable oil, brown sugar, and honey on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
  2. Lower mixer speed and add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing gently until just combined.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon to the wet mixture. Mix on low speed until incorporated.
  4. Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls, place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and refrigerate for about 1.5 hours.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough chills. Bake the cookie dough balls for about 10 minutes.
  6. Immediately sprinkle them with fleur de sel after removing from the oven, and let cool on a wire rack.
