- Layer 3 to 4 thin slices of mozzarella cheese directly onto the unbuttered side of each piece of bread.
- Spoon a heaping tablespoon of basil pesto atop the mozzarella on each slice.

- Carefully place the second slice of sourdough on top, ensuring that the buttered side is facing up.
