Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F) and grease a 20cm (8-inch) cake tin with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, sift the all-purpose flour, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the melted unsalted butter, light brown sugar, milk, egg, and dark treacle until smooth.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the diced ripe pears until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  7. For the glaze, melt golden syrup, unsalted butter, and light brown sugar in a saucepan until smooth and bubbling.
  8. Poke holes in the baked cake and pour the warm glaze over it, allowing it to soak in.
